Nanny2u is here to help, we have listed some of the more frequently asked questions to help you get instant answers.  

What is the difference between a nanny and a babysitter? 

A nanny is usually employed during the day and have sole charge of the children. They are responsible for the day to day activities / care of the children eg.

  • Pick up / drop off to school or daycare
  • Attending planned activities eg. Swimming / playgroup / play dates
  • Providing activities that stimulate the physical / emotional / and social well being of the children
  • Responsible for the domestic tasks related to the children
    • Preparing children’s meals
    • Washing children’s clothes
    • Tidying of rooms / play area

 

A Mummy Nanny is responsible for the same activities as a nanny, the only difference is, you bring your own child along.  The advantages of this arrangement are, the family gets a very experienced nanny, who has all the skills/experience of a nanny at a more affordable rate.  The children can also play and interact with each other.

A babysitter is classified as someone who typically takes care of children after working hours (from 6 pm). Their main role is caring for the children and the dinner / bedtime routine.  Duties may include:

  • Preparing children’s dinner
  • Bath
  • Homework
  • Preparing for bed
  • Tidying up after dinner and children’s play area

A casual nanny or babysitter  has no expectations of regular on going work with the same family.  It is usually for a ‘one off’ job.

Permanent nanny or babysitter can expect a regular shift or set days ranging from once a month to 5 days per week.  There is an expectation of on-going employment.

What should we expect to pay our nanny or babysitter?

The rates of pay vary, but are approximately $25 – $30 per hour, depending on the Carer’s qualifications and experience. A mummy nanny’s hourly rate is approximately $18-$20 per hour.

Who pays the Carer?

You employ the carer directly and are responsible for tax/superannuation obligations – Nanny2u can assist with contracts, payroll etc.  The carer may be self-employed and contract directly to you.  The carer would then be responsible for their own tax obligations.

Do I need insurance?

We recommend you take out Domestic Work Cover Insurance – If the carer is required to use your car – we recommend you add their name in your policy. We advise all Nanny’s to take out Public Liability Insurance.

Are my personal details kept confidential?

Yes, your personal details (surname, address, phone, email) are never given to the carer without your consent.  When a booking is made, we send a profile, which gives an overview of the carers CV and qualifications.

Can I always have the same carer for babysitting?

Our aim is to provide a regular carer for your family however it is dependent on their individual availability. Advance bookings will help to secure your regular carer. To maintain consistency for you and your family we recommend you become familiar with 2-3 of our carers.

Can I book my babysitter directly?

No, please do not make private bookings with Nanny2u carers.  Please contact Nanny2u to make a future booking .  We will make every effort to re-book you with that carer.  We do have an option for a fee to use your babysitter directly.  Please make contact to discuss.

Which areas do you cover?

Although we have positions ranging all over Sydney we predominately cover the North Shore, Northern suburbs and Northern Beaches.

What if I need advice or assistance?

Nanny2u will provide you with ongoing support and assistance for as long as you require it. We pride ourselves on the close and lengthy relationships we develop with all of our families.
