Back On Track Early Childhood Professionals Mumpreneur Feature
We’re back with another edition of our local Nanny2u Mumpreneur feature, and today we’re speaking with the duo Donna and Angela who power up the local North Shore and Northern Beaches based “Back On Track Early Childhood Professionals“. As early childhood professionals, they’re using their serious experience in the department of 2 – 6 year olds to help you navigate the early years of child development.
Tell us about Back On Track Consultancy and why you do what you do?
With over 35 years combined experience in the Early Childhood Industry, we’ve made it our passion to educate and empower parents in dealing with the challenges and obstacles of raising children aged 2 to 6 years.
We do this through our workshops tailored for the Early Childhood Environment, the Nanny industry, and by working one on one with families in their home.
We make it easy as we come to you and your family at your service, or a venue close by in the evening or even on a Saturday. Topics include Behaviour Management and School Preparation and the effects it has on young minds.
Our workshops are 90 minutes in duration and are interactive, informative and based on age appropriate expectations for child development.
We also offer staff development to encourage and motivate educators. We facilitate and educate staff to have positive relationships within their service, and with other staff, parents and children. We believe that positive and open communication and highlighting the importance of teamwork is key.
We offer individual programs and assist families in the home via in home consultations, Skype and email support. Our tips and strategies are based on child development and our experiences of working with children over many decades.
How did you get started with your business?
We’ve both worked together in the childcare environment for over 10 years, and met through our teaching positions at a local preschool. We have much in common with our personal lives – having raised our children, supported our executive husbands, and a love for keeping fit and healthy.
Our business is our passion and we do what we love and love what we do.
We often say we are like an old married couple as we finish each others sentences, make each other laugh, and can be completely honest with each other.
Who’s your biggest supporter (or mentor) that helps you to continue to strive each day?
We’re lucky (or should we say fortunate) that we have each other. We have a constant sounding board – good, bad or indifferent. We also have very supportive families who help us understand how to do things, especially when it comes to IT and social media!!!
They also knock us down a few pegs if our egos get too inflated. We have also been lucky that we have met some amazing and very clever women along the way and formed some very supportive business relationships for example, Hope Skinner from NANNY SHECANDO and Seed Social.
Tell us about a lesson you’ve learnt since being in business?
So many lessons have been learnt along the way. Patience is a big one. Believing in our brand and saying no to things if they don’t fit our brand. How to word emails and communications so they are professional (remember we are kindy teachers first, business women second), and having the confidence and being proud to celebrate our achievements and milestones.
Probably the most important thing we’ve learnt in business so far is to have loads of fun and to relax!
What should our Nanny2u parenting community know about Back On Track Consultancy?
“We are passionate! We’re here to help and assist families to be the best you can be.”
We love children and the joy and wonderment they give us, and we want to share our knowledge and skills with families to give them the confidence to be the best parent to their little ones.
What roles do you most enjoy doing in your business?
We definitely divide and conquer! We both work together on all decisions about our business but there are definitely areas that we have of expertise that we like to oversee. For example, Angela has become the social media and marketing guru, whilst Donna is in charge of powerpoint presentations and contents in how to best deliver this to our varying audiences.
We both do admin as this is a never ending entity. Without being able to divide these up the workload would feel overwhelming. It’s lucky we have each other because more than anything else we laugh our way through many tricky situations in regards to our business.
Who would have thought that 2 teachers who knew very little about business matters, would be able to start, run and be successful in their own venture.
What can we expect to see from you in the next 6 to 12 months?
In the next 6-12 months every business would like to be saying that they are expanding in 2 ways. We are adding more clients to our data base and extending our services interstate as well as nationally. And we can truly say that we are, as we have found our ‘uniqueness’ in what we offer.
It is such a niche market and with our experience (wrinkles and all) people trust our views and listen. Along with our workshops in childcare centres and in-home consultations, our workshops for the nannies are proving to be every bit as successful and valuable to those attending. We want our business to continue to grow on the same trajectory as the previous 6 months, and there is no reason why it won’t.
PLUS // come and join us for wine and nibbles! We’re holding a parenting workshop next month at Lane Cove Library (Tuesday 4th October 6.30pm to 8.30pm) with the ladies from Back On Track Consultancy about all things “guiding positive behaviour”. Tickets are $20. To book, email Shannon on firstname.lastname@example.org. Click this link for more details.
